House Was_Tears Over Detroit

This sculptural relief describe a city that has problems.

Detroit, a city ravaged by the 1967 riot, dealt with bankruptcy issues in 2014. A “Grand Deal” was struck and the city had to raised 800 million dollars in order to clear Detroit’s debt problems. As a renaissance is happening downtown and midtown, elsewhere ills still plague the lesser affluent communities.

These art pieces were done using encaustic wax, altered plastics, and burnt wood that had been scavenged from the remains of a house fire located near Detroit’s Packard Plant.

This art piece is part of a series entitled "House Was"
